📋 Before you start
  • Android 8.0 (Oreo) or later. Check: Settings → About phone → Android version.
  • ~12 MB free space.
  • A Google account signed in to Play Store.
  • You should disconnect any other VPN you have running.

Open the Play Store listing

Tap the button below from your phone, or search "ClownVPN" in the Play Store and pick the one with the clown logo.

Tap Install

Standard Play Store install. ~10 seconds on a decent connection. Google may ask you to confirm. Tap Accept.

Open the app

Either from the install screen ("Open") or from your app drawer. You'll see the brutalism welcome screen with one big circle.

Tap the big circle ("Connect")

Android shows a one-time prompt: "ClownVPN wants to set up a VPN connection." This is standard for every VPN app. Tap OK.

Wait ~2 seconds

The circle turns yellow. The status reads "Connected · Brainrot shielded". A small key icon appears in your status bar. You're tunneled.

(Optional) Pick a meme server

Tap the location chip. Pick from Ohio, Area 51, Florida Man's Garage, NYC Subway, Skibidi Toilet, or LA Bay. By default we picked the fastest one for you.

🎪 Optional Hardening

The defaults are already good. For maximum coverage, enable Android's Always-On VPN:

⚙️ Settings → Network & internet → VPN → ClownVPN ⚙️
  • Toggle Always-on VPN ON
  • Toggle Block connections without VPN ON

Now your phone refuses to send any traffic unless ClownVPN is connected. Maximum kill switch. See kill switch explainer for details.

🎪 Verify You're Tunneled

Quick check that it actually works:

  1. Open your browser.
  2. Go to ipinfo.io.
  3. The displayed IP should match a ClownVPN server, not your real ISP.
  4. Also check dnsleaktest.com — run the Standard test, you should not see your home ISP's resolver.

🎪 FAQ

Do I need to root my phone?
No. ClownVPN runs on stock Android using the standard VpnService API. Rooting is not required and not recommended.
Will Android ask me to grant any scary permissions?
Just one: "ClownVPN wants to set up a VPN connection." This is the standard system prompt every legitimate VPN app shows. Tap OK. We don't need contacts, location, camera, or any other permission.
Can I install it on Android Auto / Wear OS / Android TV?
The app is built for phones and tablets running Android 8+. Android Auto and Wear OS aren't supported. Android TV may work but isn't officially supported (results vary by device).
How do I update the app?
Auto-updates through the Play Store like any other app. Make sure auto-update is enabled in Play Store settings, or update manually from the app's Play Store page.
