🎪 What A VPN Actually Stops

📡
Your ISP seeing what sites you visit

Without a VPN, your ISP sees every domain you connect to — because they handle your DNS and they see the destination IPs. With a VPN, they see "this user connected to a VPN" and that's it.

📶
Random WiFi networks reading your traffic

Cafes, airports, hotels, shared apartments. Any WiFi operator can passively inspect unencrypted traffic from their network. A VPN encrypts every byte before it leaves your phone — they see ciphertext only.

🌍
Sites tying your real IP to behavior

Random websites you visit normally see your real IP (which often resolves to your city + ISP). With a VPN, they see the ClownVPN server's IP — shared with thousands of other users.

🎯
Ad networks correlating across plain HTTP

Most of the web is HTTPS now, but anything still on HTTP is readable by any network operator in between. A VPN turns that entire path into encrypted ciphertext.

🎪 What A VPN Doesn't Stop

Equally important to know. A VPN is one layer in a privacy stack. Here's what it doesn't do:

ThreatVPN helps?What actually helps
Google/Facebook tracking your logged-in activityNoLog out + private browsing + content-blocker
Browser fingerprintingNoFirefox + privacy.resistFingerprinting, or Tor Browser
Apps phoning home with telemetryPartialAudit app permissions; use FOSS alternatives
Phishing emails / malwareNoSkepticism + password manager + 2FA
Someone reading over your shoulderNoScreen privacy filter or, you know, look around
Data already leaked in past breachesNoHave I Been Pwned + change reused passwords

🎪 Real-World Scenarios

🏢 Office WiFi

Your employer's network can log every domain you visit during work hours, even on your personal phone. ClownVPN turns that into encrypted noise.

🏠 Roommate WiFi

Anyone with admin access to your home router (landlord, roommate, building) can see traffic patterns. A VPN takes you out of their view.

🚗 Rental Car / Airbnb WiFi

You have no idea who runs that router or what they've installed. Treat every borrowed network as untrusted; tunnel through ClownVPN by default.

🌍 Travel

Foreign hotel WiFi, conference networks, transit terminals. All untrusted infrastructure with unknown logging. Encrypt and move on.

📱 Mobile Hotspot Tethering

When someone tethers off your phone, their traffic flows through your cellular bill but their device's apps still see your IP. A VPN on your phone limits what your cell carrier sees about all of it.

🌐 Public Library / Coworking

Shared networks intended for transient use. Often log traffic for "security". Encrypt by default.

🎪 Why ClownVPN Specifically

🚫 No-log architecture

We don't log VPN traffic by design, not by promise. See the audit page.

🤡 No account

You install the app and tap connect. We don't know who you are and we don't want to.

💸 Free, honestly

Ad-supported, ad SDK runs in-app not in-tunnel. Your privacy is the product we protect, not the product we sell.

🎪 FAQ

Does a VPN make me anonymous?
No. A VPN encrypts your traffic and hides your IP from sites you visit and from your ISP. It doesn't hide who you are once you log into accounts, doesn't prevent browser fingerprinting, and doesn't obscure behavioral patterns. For real anonymity, use Tor and clean accounts/devices.
My ISP knows I'm using a VPN, isn't that bad?
In most countries it's legal and unremarkable. Your ISP sees encrypted traffic going to a VPN endpoint — they don't see the contents or destinations. Like seeing someone enter a tunnel without seeing where they come out.
Can I still be tracked by Google / Facebook / etc. with a VPN on?
Yes, when you're logged into their accounts. A VPN changes your IP; it doesn't log you out. To reduce tracking by big platforms: use private browsing for those sessions, disable third-party cookies, use a content-blocker (uBlock Origin on desktop, AdGuard on mobile).
Does ClownVPN do anything special for privacy?
Three things: (1) we don't log VPN traffic — see /no-logs/; (2) we don't require an account, so there's nothing to identify you on our side; (3) DNS queries are pushed through public resolvers via the tunnel, not our own infrastructure.
Why does free privacy actually exist? What's the catch?
Ad-supported. See how it's free. The ad SDK sees your device Ad ID (which you can reset), not your VPN traffic. The privacy of your tunnel is genuine.
